Bituminous membranes

Bituminous membranes are a high-performance waterproofing solution, offering excellent durability, flexibility, and water resistance. They are commonly used in applications like roofing, foundations, basement waterproofing, and bridge decks.

The polymer modification enhances the material's resistance to environmental factors and structural movement, making it a reliable choice for both commercial and residential waterproofing projects. Whether applied through self-adhesive methods or torch-on installation, bituminous membranes provide a long-lasting solution to prevent water infiltration and protect buildings and structures from damage.

MFT Multi-Flex Technology

MFT MONO is an innovative range of multi-coating bituminous membranes made with the MFT Multi-Flex Technology combining in one product the advantages of both APAO and SBS membranes.

MFT MONO is composed by the following three coats:

- Upper face: highly modified bituminous compound with selected poly-olefins and copolymers (APAO), giving an outstanding resistance to high temperatures and UV aging.

- Lower face: superior elastomeric compound made of distilled bitumen modified with SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) polymers, which ensures extreme elasticity, ease of application and superior bonding and tightness of all joints and overlaps.

- Reinforcement impregnation: special modified compound, made on purpose for the best pliability and resistance to mechanical stresses and perforation

Common Uses of Bituminous Membranes:

  1. Roofing:

    • Bituminous membranes are widely used in flat roofing systems (e.g., on commercial or industrial buildings) to protect against rainwater infiltration. These membranes provide a long-lasting, waterproof barrier on the roof.

  2. Basement Waterproofing:

    • Bituminous membranes are applied to the exterior of foundation walls to prevent water infiltration from the soil. This is especially important in areas with a high water table or where the risk of flooding is high.

  3. Parking Decks and Garages:

    • These membranes are often used in the construction of parking garages and deck waterproofing to prevent water damage to underlying concrete structures and prevent corrosion.

  4. Roads and Bridges:

    • Bituminous membranes are applied under road surfaces, in bridge decks, and in other infrastructure projects to prevent water from reaching and damaging the underlying concrete or steel.

  5. Retaining Walls:

    • In retaining wall applications, bituminous membranes help to protect the wall from moisture infiltration, preventing erosion and maintaining the structural integrity of the wall.

Advantages of Bituminous Membranes:

  • Excellent Waterproofing: Provides a long-lasting, effective solution for keeping water out of structures.

  • Durability: Can withstand harsh weather conditions, chemicals, and physical wear.

  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications, from roofs to foundations to roadways.

  • Ease of Application: Available in a variety of forms, including rolls and sheets, and can be applied by heating, adhesives, or cold-applied methods.

  • Cost-Effective: Relatively affordable compared to other waterproofing systems like EPDM or TPO membranes.

Conclusion:

Bituminous membranes are a highly effective solution for waterproofing in both residential and commercial construction. Their durability, flexibility, and resistance to water and chemicals make them ideal for roofing, foundation waterproofing, parking decks, and many other applications. Whether modified with SBS or APP, these membranes provide reliable and long-lasting protection against water damage.
