Advantages & Benefits

  • The geotextile fused to the nodules absorbs and filters water from the ground, preventing the system from clogging.

  • Easy and quick to install.

  • Rot-proof.

  • Chemically unchanged when in contact with chemical agents present in the soil (sulphates, chlorides, etc).

  • Allows for the transformation of traditionally concrete or asphalt surfaces into green spaces that positively influence the urban microclimate.

  • Provides permanent drainage.

  • Protects the waterproofing sheet from possible piercing caused by fill earth.

  • Resistant to breakage, impact and does not deform.

Waterproofing a green roof

Waterproofing a green roof using two layers of bituminous membrane is a common and effective approach for ensuring water protection and preventing leakage. Bituminous membranes are widely used in waterproofing because they offer excellent durability and resistance to water and environmental conditions. Here’s what you would need to waterproof a green roof using two layers of bituminous membrane

1) Primer: To help the membrane bond to the substrate

2 - 3) Bituminous Membrane (2 layers): Modified bitumen or APP (Atactic Polypropylene) or SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) membranes are commonly used.

Heat Source: A torch or hot air welding machine for bonding the membranes to each other and the surface.

4) Geodrain and Geotextile Composite: will Provide a permanent drainage and protects the waterproofing sheet from possible piercing caused by fill earth.

5) Drainage Layer: A drainage layer is often placed on top of the bituminous membrane before adding the green roof system.

6) Protection Layer: A protective sheet to avoid damage to the membrane from sharp objects in the green roof.

7) Gravel or Protection Mat: For protecting the membranes before planting

Roof Insulation (Optional): Some systems may incorporate additional insulation layers.
